Lowered GPU temps by 6 degrees!

Been looking for ways to lower overall case temps so I decided to see about lowering my video card's temps by replacing the stock thermo paste with Arctic Silver's MX-3. The result was a 6 degree temperature drop on the card! Went from idling around 67-67 to 61-62 idle. Cool.

The first image is with the stock paste - 67c, the second image is with the Artic Silver MX-3 paste - 61c.

BTW even though the first image is old, the temps were the same as early as today. Unfortunately I didn't think about "before" and "after" shots until I saw the results; thus the old screen shot

Anyways If you're handy with a screwdriver I recommend replacing your thermo paste if for no other reason than insuring the old or stock paste isn't worn out or not properly applied. The other reason is if your card appears to be running high temps at idle...whatever high temps means as todays cards run hot...even at idle!!!

At any rate my card always ran around 67 celsius, so it's nice to see 61 now

    Give it a try.

Incidentally I replaced the Artic Silver 5 paste with the MX-3 on my CPU cooler and it lowered my overall temps by an average of 2 degrees.

    Later.

Yeah I decided to give MX-3 a try because I ran out of AS5. MX-3 is a little expensive though.

At any rate did you do your video card???

lol, I just stressed out my 9400gt with furmark and it hit 100C, I definitely need to get my hands on some arctic silver, probably after I get an aftermarket hsf for my i5. http://i45.tinypic.com/2ln70ja.png

MX is pricier than AS5, but , try $10.00 a gram. Shin-Etsu X23-7783D Thermal Compound 1Gram: CrazyPC Computers

Haven't done the video card yet. I might, though it runs pretty cool as is: load of 62C.
