Hi,
Windows 7 keeps giving me a pop up reminder that my screen resolution is not optimum and that the optimum resolution is 1280 x 1024. The annoying thing is that this actually IS the native resoltion of the monitor I'm using, and it IS the screen res I've set (actually it was set autmatically) in windows. So every time I boot up I get a reminder popping u, reminding me to do something I'm already doing.
Any Ideas?

Lets try this, set it at a resolution that you do not want. Then when told to do so click ok or whatever. You may fool the computer into thinking you actually made the changes.

Yes check these in the registry:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NVSvc\Start (change to 4)
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ (see below)
Look for video related start up software and delete them.

@rich, yes that was my first thought. Tried it, and unfortunately, it still happens. Thank for the suggestion.
@ WindowStar er...OK. I may give that a go. But that looks like the kind of poking and tweaking that I fully expected to do in an OS which I downloaded for nothing, but not one I paid £90 for. Are you really telling me I need to do the equivalent of manually editing conf files to get windows to play nice with a bog-standard monitor? Again, thanks for your help. I do appreciate it, and I'll try it if necessary, but I feel uneasy poking about in the registery.
The registry is the brains of the OS, if you touch it make a system restore point first. In addition back up registry.
Unfortunately every video card manufacture out there seems to think that installing extra software is better for you. In my case I want the driver, and the driver only. I don't need the quick control panel, or the quick keys to rotate your monitor etc. They typically add all that software to your RUN keys including the reminder to register the software or to nag you some other reason. I just remove all of that and am done with it.
As Rich said download and install the latest driver first and then do the clean up.
