    FX 5500 Driver not working

Hi guys, I've just installed Windows 7 on my computer:

    Celeron D 2.53Ghz
    1.5GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX5500 - AGP slot

The problem is: I already tried the driver that was downloaded from Windows Update, tried downloading the latest Vista driver (they don't have a 7 driver).

It didn't work, the computer got to the "Starting" screen and then the image goes away, but the loading and sound continues, I restart in safe mode, it says it was a BSOD, it happened with the two drivers.

The only way I can get back to 7 Normal Boot is by going to Device Manager and clicking "Roll Back" on the driver, but then it turns to a "Standard VGA adapter".

One extra fact: In safe mode I saw that in the Device Manager, the card was listed to be on the PCI port, but it's in AGP.

I don't know what I can do now

Could someone help me please, I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks in advance. :)

The card is supposed to install with drivers included with Win7:

Windows 7 Compatibility for XFX Geforce FX 5500 DDR AGP 256MB Graphics Card: XFX. Drivers, Updates, Downloads

Maybe you should run Driver Sweeper:

    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

but I'm not optimistic that this will help.

I used Driver Sweeper in safe mode, now I am going to try to reinstall the driver...

But the main thing is, even when the driver is installed, it appears as PCI, and the card is AGP:

I can change the driver to FX5500, but when I do, the computer restarts and the whole screen is black, no signal on the monitor.

    Hi linkxt

    Welcome to Seven Forums :)

You'll find that the 'PCI bus number' that the AGP card uses is different to that of all the other PCI cards and integrated motherboard devices. Essentially the AGP bus is not completely different to the PCI bus. Even in the BIOS POST listing you'll see the AGP card listed with the PCI devices but on a different bus (number).

Did you install your motherboard drivers (specifically the chipset drivers) before installing the driver for your card? You may need to also download and install the latest version of the chipset driver for your motherboard.

    Regards

    I thought I had them installed D:
I'm downloading them now, thank you :)
Thanks for the explanation about the PCI/AGP bus, I tought it was the issue

    About the video drivers.
Aparently it's solved now. I just reverted to the "Standard VGA Adapter", and instead of NVIDIA drivers, I installed "Omega Drivers". But I miss the Nvidia Control Panel and the "Perfomance" option, is there any program that does what it did?

Since I'm downloading my MoBo drivers now, maybe I'll give the Nvidia Drivers another try tomorrow.

Thank you for everything, I REALLY appreciate it.
    Good Se7en for you

What I understand about Omega drivers is that they are user-modified versions of the official drivers. They may not have WHQL status - hope that made sense )
Thanks for letting us know - be sure to create a system restore point before doing any further changes

As for the NVidia Control Panel - you could give nhancer a try. There are some other utilities out there ( one of the most used one's RivaTuner which can be downloaded from here)

    Take care and regards

It seems I spoke too soon...
Windows has interrupted the device because problems were found.

With Omega I can get past the Starting screen, but I can't use the VGA?

Uninstall the Omega driver>Install the motherboard chipset driver>Reinstall the Nvidia Official driver (make sure it's the AGP version - you could try the one that came with the card)
Don't forget to reboot when prompted :)

    IT WORKED
    I uninstalled Omega Drivers.
I installed the MoBo drivers and then the Windows Update Driver, it worked, but I couldn't go to 1024x768 because the monitor lost the signal then. So, I tried installing the Nvidia driver, and it stopped working, I uninstalled the driver, used Driver Sweeper, and rebooted the computer. Again, I installed the Windows Update drivers, and this time I could change the resolution at my will, and I switched the monitors, so now I am running @1280x1024.

    Thank you so much

    Little edit-
Since NV Control Panel is not available, I tried to open Nhancer, but I think he requires those CP files to work

But I'd rather have a working computer than a driver-failing one, so if the CP doesn't work there is no problem.

    Another update:
I was looking for Aero, then I decided to try installing the Vista Driver again, so I created a Restore Point and installed it, all went fine, and now I got Aero

Maybe the issue was the old monitor, because I had no drivers for it.

But the Nvidia Control Panel isn't available yet, and Nhancer is with the same problem.

    Another sucessfull edit-
I was able to go through Nvidia Control Panel through Control Panel.

Now it's everything on it's rail. Thank so much for your help
