My tip: Save up a little more and go for a better ATI card :)

If your talking between improvement.. The 5830 will sit behind a 460 Fermi. This is the difference between manufacturer specs and actual run-time.

On a side note: These 2 cards will trade blow to blow on some games and other games, (especially older games) the 460 will outperform. This really comes down to user preference. Are you ATI or Nvidia?
I don't really have a preference, but I think NVIDIA is pretty "cool". Also, would it be worth it to get the 1GB Superclocked EE GTX 460 (01G-P3-1373-AR): http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...s%20Family&sw= priced at $250 or is it not really worth it? If it is in a way should I then just spend a few extra bucks and, if there is, get a card a step up?

The superclocked edition starts touching near performance of a ati 5850. So performance to dollar if it is in your price range.. then get it. If you have a bit more to spend and can get the 5850.. then get that instead.

    No question about it.

GTX 460 all the way. 5850-level performance for ~$200.
It's actually behind the Radeon HD 5850 in most games. But compared to a Radeon HD 5830, the GTX 460 is a better option.

Thanks guys you really helped me a lot! Any more information and suggestions are very welcome

EDIT: Oh yeah... one more thing I forgot (could be pretty important). If I put the new card in a PCI Express x16 slot, and not a 2.0 slot, how much performance loss am I looking at? Will it still be worth it or would it than just be smart to upgrade the mobo first? Don't really have the money for it though...

You won't notice any difference. I ran my Radeon HD 5850 (PCIe 2.0) on a P35 motherboard (PCIe 1.0) and it wasn't slowed down by any means. When I upgraded to a P45 motherboard (PCIe 2.0) I didn't notice any improvement.

Alright, now I just have to make sure it will fit and pick a new PSU.

GTX 460 all the way, cuz of the performance of that card at 200$. Pretty good at overclocking and it beat some of the higher nvidia cards in some test when overclocked. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 768MB and 1GB Video Card Reviews - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Overclocking - Legit Reviews

I do recommend the 1GB over the 768MB GTX460 (better performance).
