    How to override Monitor detection?

    Hi guys,

I have a big problem. i have connected my monitors via displayport to my computer.
displayport is very nice, but it has one feature that is - in combination with windows vista/7 - very bad. displayport specification says that if a device (Monitor) will be turned off (standby) it will not be visible to the computer anymore. that is very annoying because windows has a routine which permanently checks if all monitors are still connected. if one monitor will be physicly disconnected, then windows will reorganize the desktop (all content that was on the disconnected screen will be moved to the others). if the monitor will be turned on again windows will move the windows back to the place where it has been before, but often it does not work correctly.

does somebody know how to disable that? maybe a registryentry?

have same issue with display port

I have a 4 port KVM displayport switch. I have the same or similar issue. once the PC and monitor lose connection all of the open windows move to the upper left and overlap.

Issue happens without the KVM connected if the displayport cable is removed from the video card and then replaced. So not the switch.

also with the same equipment dvi and hdmi connections do not have the problem. I use display port because it is the only way my dell u2711 will allow 2650x1440 resolution.

Have you found a hack to turn off detect displays? that is almost sure the root cause. I have loaded a pre SP1 copy of vista and it will not automatically detect a 2nd monitor and with display port no issue. Vista has too many other issues to actually use it. I just wanted to confirm issue.

I also have tried windows 8 build 7879 problem not fixed.

    any suggestions?
