Was it your drive that you purchased brand new?
Was it your drive that you purchased brand new?
yes, the warranty period also completed.... that y i want to repair it by myself
Try connecting it to another computer and see if you can format it there.
ya i have tried that one too but no use....
Is it an external case you can somehow open to pull the drive out? Maybe the controller went bad, and the drive is just fine. You could do that and then connect it internally.
In your Drive Management screenshot, specifically what action did you take to get that write protect dialog box?
i tried to create a partition,and put it in offline,but i didn't its giving the error "the media is write protected"
Searching here and there, I found something, but as I have never tried it, I cannot say you how far it will work, but you may try it .... .
- Click on start button > all programs > accessories > command prompt > right click on it, and run as administrator
- type : diskpart, hit enter
- type : list volume, hit enter
- type : select volume __ (put the name of that write protected volume) hit enter
- type : attributes volume clear readonly hit enter
Exit command prompt, and see if it is working now.
Just for general edification, please notice that name is only used in the case of a mounted volume.

DISKPART> help select volume
Selects the specified volume and shifts the focus to it.
Syntax: SELECT VOLUME={<N> | <D>}
VOLUME=<N> The number of the volume to receive the focus.
VOLUME=<D> The drive letter or mounted folder path of the volume
to receive the focus.
If no volume is specified, the select command lists the current volume with
focus. You can specify the volume by number, drive letter, or mounted folder
path. On a basic disk, selecting a volume also gives the corresponding
partition focus. You can view the numbers of all volumes on the computer by
using the list volume command.
Example:
SELECT VOLUME=1
SELECT VOLUME=C
SELECT VOLUME=C:\MountH
DISKPART>
Another aside,
this will not remove the password feature of the external disk, thank goodness.
