Usb card reader problems Everytime I plug in A usb card reader, it doesn't work. I've tried every usb hub on my computer Everything was working fin three days ago. Then it just stopped. When I plug one in it says "usb device not recognized". They all work fine on other computers. When I look in device manger under USB contollers it says "Unknown Device". When I look under device status it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I don't understand why its not working, I used it just the other day. Oh, and I plugged a flash drive into the same port and it worked.

If the USB card reader was working on the subject PC before, and now it does not, that would indicate a corrupted driver or driver conflict.
Did you install anything new in the last 3 days?
You could try doing a System Restore to a point 3 or 4 days ago whe the reader worked. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DESKTOP - Home Built - March 2009 OS Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium SP1 CPU i7-920 Motherboard Asus P6T - Bios 1408 Memory Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 - 6GB Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX260+ - Driver 296.10 Sound Card On board Realtek ACL1200 Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2007FP Screen Resolution 1280 x 960 Keyboard MS KC-0405 Mouse Intellimouse 5-button PSU Corsair CMPSU-750TX - 750 watt Case Lian Li PC-K10B Cooling Standard, 3 120mm case fans Hard Drives #1- Western Digital WD6401AALS Sata Black

TVeblen is right. Code 43 is usually an indication of a driver problem (mostly for graphic cards but also for USB devices). I suggest you uninstall the driver and reboot. Maybe it finds a better one. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

The only thing I can installed of is Google Chrome. That wouldn't mess with the drivers would it? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 530 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit CPU Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 2 x 1024mb Graphics Card Nvidia Geforce 210 Cooling Fan Hard Drives 1- 500gb Internet Speed <1mbps |

It's not necessarily that anything you loaded is causing the driver failure, but rather the driver has become corrupted. Try removing the device in Control Panel then shutting the PC down and Cold Booting which will have a fresh instance of the driver loaded by Windows 7. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DELL XPS Studio 435T OS Vista 64 Ultimate, Windows 7 64 Ultimate, Ubuntu 9.10 CPU i7 975 3.3 GHz Extreme (Factory OC'd to 3.6 GHz) Motherboard DELL provided Memory 18 Gb Tri-Channel 1066 Graphics Card ATI 5970 2048 Mb Sound Card X-Fi Extreme Gamer Monitor(s) Displays Vizio 37" HD-TV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Performance K350 Wireless Mouse Logitech Performance MX Wireless PSU DELL Provided 475 watts Case DELL Cooling 3 fans Hard Drives 1.5 Tb HDD
