Windows 7: SSD not recognized by windows

64-bit Windows 10 Pro

Yes, Windows 7 will do TRIM for you.

While you do not want to defrag a SSD since it will shorten it's lifespan, you can do a chkdsk on a SSD anytime you like.

One other thing:

If you manually select a SSD drive and choose analyze or defragment, it will defragment it.

To know for sure if defragmenting the SSd is disabled:

Disk Defragmenter Schedule- Turn On or Off

Click on Configure Schedule tab, and choose the select disk option. This will show all disks that are currently enabled for automatic defraging. You may find something similar to my screen shot below.

As you can see, Disk defragmenting will run on a schedule for all of my spinning drives, however a scheduled run for both my SSDs has been disabled & removed from the options by Windows. So, automatic SSD defragmenting has indeed been disabled.

It will still list ALL hardrives on the main screen however, including the SSDs, and will defragment them if you manually choose to do so. It just will not be done automatically.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Hey Brink/Wishmaster, do you know if ccleaner's uninstall feature is as good as "Absolute Uninstall?

Revo Un-Installer is quite good and highly recommended by many here.
If you're not satisfied with Windows built in one, it does do a more thorough job.

It is certainly worth looking into.

As far as Absolute Uninstall, im unfamiliar with it so can't say anything good or bad about it.

CCleaner's I've never used. Ive just used Windows built in, or Revo.

Hopefully others have more to share.

CCleaner's uninstall feature is basically the same as just using the Windows 7 built-in "Programs and Features".

Windows 7 has TRIM support enabled by default. In fact, it sends TRIM commands to the drive controller no matter what kind of disk is attached. If the drive is not a TRIM enabled SSD the commands are simply ignored. You can turn that off, but the overhead is so low it's just not worth it. If you want to verify:

open a command prompt with administrator privileges and issue the command:

fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify

The result will be one of the following:

DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)
