Green 500 GB

Hallo out there,

I'm concerned about a harddrive of mine which is a WD green. It has been making a strange sound when booting up and when I try to access data on it,, I'm on my knees with this one, because i've had another WD green which suddenly broke down without any notice... I've also had a black one that failed, so I don't know if this sound could be a sign that it isn't doing well. Or maybe I'm treating the drive in a wrong way, I don't know. Please help If you have some experience with this subject

I would certainly backup any data that you have on the drive ASAP....different sounds that usual are almost always a sign of bad things to come.

I'm using it as a storage drive, are you guys familiar with the different kind of partitions? This partition is set as a primary simple drive,, I've turned the indexing option off

Yes, familiar with the partition types. Primary, extended, logical, etc. There really isn't anything that you are physically doing to the drive to damage it unless

#1). You are pulling the drive while it's running and dropping it on the phone
#2). You have bad power coming into your house, or computer and that is damaging the drive.

well, It must be the second solution if any of 'em. I think it's just the drive that's bad, don't you think? Although I haven't found any bad sectors on the drive. But as I mentioned earlier, I've had 2 other drives from same manufactor that crashed. The drive shouldn't make any sounds right?

Just little clicking sounds and such are normal. Drives are not completely silent (unless an SSD), but if it's making abnormal sounds there is likely an issue. Sometimes, depending upon your case, your HD can transfer some vibrations to the case which will either amplify the sound or cause some other sounds that aren't normal.

Better back up your data. That green is dying. Get another hard drive. Make sure it says "Samsung" on it.

I have it backed it up now on a black one,, It is set as "master boot record" in spite of the fact that it isn't a system drive at all. How do I change this? (I going to use it the same way as the green, but with demanding applications too)
