Laptop Keyboard disabled after automatic update

So last night while I was asleep Windows 7 Home 32 rebooted my Inspiron 1545 laptop to install updates. Now when I go to type in my password, the keyboard is dead. No keys work at all.

SO I rebooted it, and lo and behold while bios is running the keyboard works fine. I can get into the boot menu etc and the arrow keys and everything works. As soon as 7 shows up though, no dice.

I've tried booting up in safe mode and then booting back up normally, popped the battery out, you name it.

Figures this all goes down the day AFTER my warranty ran out.

Any help or ideas would be lovely! I need this thing for a gig next week!

i reinstalled my girlfriends dell (same model as yours)

Samething happened all the time. Seems to be a problem with the model. I found by just restarting it solved the issue. Sometime just restart again.

I think i also uninstalled the driver and let it reinstall itself.

I also had a theory that it might be my logitech mouse that was causing the problem. Cause she hasn't complained since using her old model usb mouse

good luck. It is a strange issue

Well that's weird. I soft-powered it at the boot screen (hit the power button once to sleep it), exchanged the Logitech for a crappy old dell mouse, rebooted, and boom. What a weird thing. Thanks for the info - no more panicking.
