CD/DVD Drive not working... Please help me! um hi guys, well i got windows 7 and this problem for some time now and thought windows updates would someday lead to the problem being fixed but well its still not and its been many months now, so yea i have a sony NEC Optiarc AW-G170S drive and when it is connected to my PC my PC gets all sorts of problem, when i put a disc in the drive, at the begining it kind of reads it then after a few secs the PC just freezes, sometimes i can still move the cursor but cant do anything else and it is really frustrating not being able to use discs, so yes i was wondering if there was maybe a 64 bit driver or something because when i disconect the sata cable from the drive the PC works like a charm! Please Help me!

Looks like it had 64-bit compatibility with Vista, but I can't find compatibility with Windows 7.
Here is the driver support page for firmware updates: Latest downloads for SONY Optiarc DVD RW Series - Sony Optiarc America

Go into device manager and disable the optical drive, then delete the driver for it.
Shutdown (= no power) your computer.
Power up you computer. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Satellite L305D laptop OS MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit CPU AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-64, 2100 Mhz, 2 Cores Motherboard TOSHIBA Portable PC (Socket M2/S1G1) Memory 4.0GB (2x2GB) DDR2 @ 333MHz 5-5-5-15 Graphics Card ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics (Toshiba) Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor @ 1280x800 Screen Resolution 1280 x 800 Keyboard standard PS/2 Keyboard Mouse HP Wireless Optical Mobile Mouse Model FHA-3410 Hard Drives 125.03GB Corsair CSSD-V128GB2 ATA Device (IDE)

There are no drivers for this, just the firmware (I'm shocked). Does the Device Manager show the drive as working properly?
Also, I'm assuming you upgraded your OS. What did you upgrade from and did the drive work correctly then? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell and Custom OS Systems 1 and 2: Windows 7 Enterprise x64, Win 8 Developer CPU System 1: i7 2600@3.4GHz, System 2: AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6G Motherboard System 1:Dell 06NWYK System 2: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ Memory System 1: 8GB System 2: 8GB Graphics Card System 1: ATI FirePro V4800 System 2: Radeon HD 6850 Sound Card System 1: onboard System 2: onboard Monitor(s) Displays System1: Viewsonic HDMI 24" Screen Resolution System 1: 1920x1080 System 2: 1920x1080 Case System 1: Dell System 2: Cooler Master Hard Drives System 1: Mirrored .5B drives System 2: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internet Speed 10 MBPS |
