Tips to wiping an HDD

I've decided that I'm going to wipe my Hard drive clean. I've got barely any space and no money for a new hard drive. Before I do this does anyone have any advice. I'd like to do it with no worries.

Windows 10 Pro x64

Go to "My Computer" right click on the drive and left click on Format.
This is not a secure erasure of Data but it clears the drive so as you can use it again.
EDIT; i will have to type a bit faster to beat some of you speed typists.

Hi I have a new laptop and a friend is having my old laptop. I need to wipe the old laptop securely so there is no sensitive information on the hard drive. Thing is the dvd drive is not working so can't use my Windows 7 disc. Is there a way I can do this? Many thanks
