I'm trying to install a Maxtor DiamondMax 20 internal 160 SATA drive. When plugging the drive into my motherboard (EP31-DS3L) the drive is not detected at all..
When plugged in side-by-side with 2 Western Digital drives, a 160Gb and a 500GB NONE of them are detected. However when booting into Ubuntu from a USB it shows 1 Western Digital 160GB drive unmounted...
I am trying to install Windows on this 160GB DiamondMax drive but seeing as the bios doesn't detect it I can't install anything to it. The cables are properly connected. (tried all 4 sata ports) jumper pins are correct. (It only has 4 pins), tried both in 3Gb/s mode and 1.5Gb/s mode.
Installed Maxblast and Seagate Disc Wizard and neither of them detect the drive. (Probably because the bios isn't detecting it). I cant even open the program to create a bootable Maxblast disc!
I can hear the drive working it sounds fine, no grinding or whatever.
Specs:
Maxtor
DiamondMax 20
S/N: 5PT1046A
STM316021AS
P/N: 9DR112-326
Firmware: 3.AAE
6P160W0
160GB SATA
I've tried everything with this drive. Maxblast and DiscWizard are useless and don't even run. It doesn't show up in Disc Management via Right click -> Manage. It's not plug and play because scanning for new devices doesn't work.
I'm stumped aren't HDD's meant to not need
drivers? All of that is stored on the controllers or something..
What else can I try? It's not detected by itself and when I plug it in along side other drives NONE of them are detected for some reason....
