copy image to ssd drive

Hi I would like to copy an acronis true image windows 7 system file to a new ssd drive the image is stored on a external hard drive which would be the best way to achive this?thanks....

Assuming you have appropriate space on the SSD for the image to be restored to.

Based on what I'm reading, it looks like Acronis should have had you make a bootable CD already. If not, you will need to do so. Install the SSD, then boot into the Acronis CD. To do this, you may need to change to boot order in BIOS, to boot from CD/DVD first. Use the Acronis software to restore the drive. Now but the setting back to how it was in BIOS, and boot into 7. Then you need to insert the 7 install DVD and run an upgrade/repair install. This is because the install for a HDD is little different from how 7 installs itself for a SSD. Afterwards, you need to make sure that Windows Disk Defrag is turned OFF. It is not recommended to defrag an SSD. SSDs are so fast, that no advantage can be expected, and it is likely to cause damage to the SSD.

That should at least get you up and running.

Personally, I would just do a clean install to the SSD and start over.


But, if you made a Full disc Image you can restore it from your Acronis boot CD.
Once in Windows, after driver installs, re-run WEI and 7 should make the needed adjustments afterwards.

You should be Ok so long as a Full disc Image.


the only issues may be if it is just a Partition Image, & you may end up with alignment issues.
Sometimes it will want to re-align.



Either Way, double check aligments:

If the current setting show aligned, do a Full Disc image.
If not, may be easier just to clean install. (I would anyway personally)

Thanks for the replys i've been reading about alignment problems that seems to be my main concern. i think a clean install may be the best option in the long run.
