    DVD/CDROM not working

    Hi all,

About a two weeks ago my dvd drive stoped working (it could have been longer but I havent used the drive), this only a few weeks after upgrading to Windows 7.

When looking in device manager my DVD drive is not recognised and I'm stuck what to do next. The DVD drive has power to it but I can play or burn.

Is my DVD drive just broken or has windows 7 'lost it'

Have tried some of the regedit solutions but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas greatly appreicated. I'm a bit of a computer novice and am at a loss at what to do

An easy way to check if the DVD Drive is gone from Windows 7 or just plain gone is when your computer is booting up. Press either F2 or DEL to boot into the BIOS and check if that DVD Drive is listed under its installed devices (may have a different name in your BIOS).

    Hi Darician,

It wasnt immediately obvious that it was listed as I wasnt sure what I was looking for.

I did notice that CD ROM was listed in the boot order and showing as enabled. Does ATAPTI CD ROM mean anything?

Hi all. There is nothing showing in device manager so no yellow triangle.

    This relates to my laptop

Hi, I tried it but all I got was

'Windows didnt detect an optical disc drive.'

    Guess this means its knackered?

I'm not sure Jorton, i pointed you toward the microsoft fix as i used it myself only a few weeks ago when my disk drive had the same symptoms you described ,sorry it wasn't successful, hopefully someone else with more experience in these matters will be able to further assist.

Thanks anyway, it was working ok a few weeks back but went to watch a DVD the other night and stopped.

I'm guessing that this is a case of a broken CDROM
