    Question about dying psu

Alright I'm pretty sure my PSU just crapped out I smelt a burning smell after my computer randomly shut down. It shut down twice randomly before this and I could not figure out why. Question is...

Should I be worried that it killed any of my other components or not?
If anyone could reccomend a great psu for under 100 bucks that would be amazing I was looking at this one...

    Newegg.com - RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W ATX12V V2.2/ EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Modular LED Power Supply

but after reading reviews im kind of scared to get it and also woorried about alot of other things now...

It may have killed some other components, yes. Hard to say until you get a new supply.

I would buy a new PSU from one of the big boys, like Thermaltake, OCZ, Corsair, SeaSonic... The PSU is the last place you want to try to save money on in a computer. I have a really good OCZ, and it cost less than $100 CDN. Try places like Newegg. They often have some good supplies at great deals.

Was hoping I saved the email from Newegg for a sale on an OCZ GameXStream 850W was I think around 129.99 but half off with promo code.
Just checked Newegg and their all out of stock.

The one you have linked is inexpensive and under details says it has a 85% efficiency rating which is good and adequate amps on the +12v rails, over volt and overload protection and a 135mm cooling blue led fan. Has a 4 egg feedback rating which I always take with a grain of sand but it looks like a good deal
    .
Personally I stay with the known branded PSU's and couldn't agree with the above post more.
I think it should be more than adequate for your needs.
Here's a nice modular if you don't mind the hassle of the rebate. FabeOCZ ModXStream Pro Power Supply - 700-Watt, Modular, Dual +12V Rails, SATA, 80Plus at TigerDirect.com

It also helps when aksing about buying computer parts to have filled in your location (flags)Since not everything is avalible to everyone pending on where they live.
We sometimes forget not everyboady can just go to Newegg.
This is more for others who read this post since you have linked to the egg I assume your in the U. S. Thanks. Fabe

Another thing to mention about PSU's

OCZ PSU's look expensive to start against the other PSU prices but some GOOD manufacturers (like OCZ still?) quote their 'sustained' output as opposed to 'maximum' wattage output.

So a 650w OCZ PSU could easily match/beat a 750-800watt (ripoff?) manufacturer PSU - quoted on 'maximum' output!

You will have to do the legwork to find out which of the few manufacturers quote 'sustained' output.

I think Seasonic do too - but some of the others here might tell you!

What do you think the chances are that it killed something else?
That corsair you posted seems a bit cheap for a 700 plus watt, seems almost too good to be true =/
I live in the us by the way and my system is...

    amd athlon x2 2800
    9800gtx+
    2x1 gb ram
    evga 590sli mobo

it shut off once before then i woke up turne dit on it was fine
then it shut off again while i was sleeping turne dit on and it was fine
the last time it shut off it wouldnt turn back on

do you think since it shut off twice before nothing prob broke like the other times or like maybe the last one was worse and broke something?
I really want to know considering im struggling to make the money for the psu itself and i dont have money to buy other parts so kinda scared...
i spend alot of time on my pc lol not having it is the weirdest thing to me
