    Windows 7 printer problems

    Hello!

    Is there a way to add network printer as a power user on win7 (registry solution or...)?

    Thanks!

    Under Devices and Printers there is an option at the top of the page to add a printer and when you click on it it asks if it is a network printer or printer connected directly to your computer.

    Sorry, but I'm not aware of any such category of Win7 accounts known as "Power User".

    And, if this is YOUR machine, then why do you NOT have admin rights in the first place?

    If this is someone else's machine, THEY should login with admin rights and then you can install the printer.

    If this is a Work-provided machine, you have no business messing around with installing ANYTHING. Companies have IT departments for doing that -- and, more important, all to often, have policies of firing folks for messing around with company-provided equipment.

    An account with Power User rights :). I have admin rights on my PC. The policy is that they don't give admin rights to employees. I'm not messing around anything, just trying to find out is there a way to install network printer on win7 machine without admin (account with power user right in this case) rights that can be solved via GP. With WinXp, somone who is power user could with piece of cake install network printer without admin rights so I'm trying to find out how can I manage that on Win7 machine with Power User rights? Thanks

    This has solved my problem for now:

    Open GPEDIT.MSC and under computer configuration - administrative templates - printers - point and print restrictions:

    > Users can only point and print to machines in their forest:

    Enabled
    Security Prompts, When Installing Drivers for a new connection = Do not show warning or elevation prompt
    Security Prompts, When Installing Drivers for a new connection = Do not show warning or elevation prompt

    Also:

    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Driver Installation
    The setting is called "Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these devices setup classes".
    You will need to add the device class GUID of printers: {4d36e979-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
