G19 and Plugging in USB Devices

Hello,

I had just bought a G19 keyboard for my wife, we both have windows 7. Of course we first get it, we get giddy with excitement because this looks like an awesome keyboard.

We install the software from the CD then plug it in, it works fine and operates as expected. We plug in a USB flash drive (because it says we can finally do that now) and the keyboard just stops working, i tried to rescan for hardware changes, unplug it and plug it back in.

I notice the processor usage jumps to almost 100%, and after looking at the resource monitor, it's stuck on System Interruption and doesn't go away until I reboot the machine. After that I see this problem it just happens randomly even without any devices plugged in. So I download the latest version of the software from logitech and install it. Works great again, so later I tried to plugin our camera to the keyboard, again, same problems as before, reboot and works fine.

One thing I noticed is that it's showing 2 Logitech G19's in my Device and Printers section with different sets of hardware on it.

So pretty much we cannot plugin any data related devices to the keyboard without it failing. Should I send it back or is it just not working with Data related usb devices?

Any thoughts would be great.

Are you plugging the USB flash drive into one of the ports on the keyboard or the main system? As far as I am aware (and someone will probably correct me on this), the sockets provided on keyboards are mainly intended so that you can plug a mouse or pen/tablet pad in.

It could also be down to the USB mode. A keyboard is typically a USB 1.0 or 1.1 device (there is no point in it being any faster) and, as such, the port to which it is connected effectively becomes a 1.0 or 1.1 port. This means that any device plugged into the socket(s) on the keyboard will be restricted to the slower speed associated with the USB 1.0 and/or 1.1 revisions. In effect, the maximum speed of a particular port is limited to the slowest device in the chain. If you attach a device that is normally 2.0 rated, such as a flash drive, it can cause your system to slow down whilst it ascertains what data is stored on it.

The reason why you've got 2 instances of the driver is probably because you have installed 2 sets of drivers - one from the accompanying CD and one that you've downloaded. I advise that you uninstall both sets of drivers (reboot after uninstalling) and then reinstall the one you downloaded.

You would be correct if we were talking about the G15, it only has ports for the devices you mentioned, but with the G19, it actually has a separate power adapter to power the usb ports on the keyboard, enabling someone to do this.

The usb ports on the keyboard are indeed usb 2.0, i did check that and make sure. Also the ports on my computer are USB 2.0 as well

I'll try uninstalling both and see what happens, the problem is that there are multiple drivers tied to this device.

Logitech reckons that you can use a flash drive - so it just might be faulty..
RMA it and they'll test it for you..

Ok so after re-installing the drivers and making sure the USB port that it's plugged into isn't bad, i was able to get the flash drive working without a problem, but i think anything that requires more power than that, overloads the keyboard maybe?

I plugged in my camera to the keyboard after i got the flash drive to work and it did the same thing, so there might be a power limit to it.
