the brightness isnt a big factor in making it last longer, theyre designed to be that bright. ive had a lcd monitor for 3 years on default settings and never had a problem. only thing that i can think might extend the life of the monitor is to turn it off when you leave the computer instead of waiting for it to go to sleep by itself. save some electricity and reduces chance of screen imprint
Black (dead) pixels typically occur when the panel is powered on the very first time. If the pixel works then, it will typically last for the life of the monitor. And typically, monitors last longer than computers, but if a monitor does fail, it is usually the inverter and/or backlight, not pixels.
