Dell Latitude XT Tablet and Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate RC x64 (Build 7100) on my Latitude XT and it's been running great. I previously had some issues with the pen not working with the BETA, but all of that is fixed in the RC. All of the current Vista x64 XT drivers work on Win7.
My specs are:
Intel LV7600 1.2Ghz Dual-Core Processor
3GB of RAM
ATI Radeon x1250
64GB Samsung SSD drive
Booting up into Windows 7 is extremely fast, probably due to a combination of win7 and the SSD drive. I often run dozens of IE and Excel windows and it multitasking speed and load capabilities are pretty impressive.
Multimedia performance is decent, it scored low for AERO, but I was able to play 720P x264 files perfectly without any lag even though its only a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor. Unfortunately, it cannot handle 1080P x264 without A/V Desync.
My only quip is that the multi-touch feature could be improved. Although it could be a Dell hardware limitation rather than Windows 7. Otherwise, having a touch tablet is very convenient with Windows 7. The on-screen keyboard is a lot bigger and easier to use, and many of the touch features have been improved.
I programmed my fingerprint reader so I never have to type in the annoying and long domain passwords.
I tried out the Windows XP Mode, it's essentially a virtual PC session of Windows XP, with all the hardware being shared and working by default. It also maps your local hard drives by default. I had to enable the virtualization option from BIOS before I could get it to work.
My favorite feature has got the be the "Windows Key + P" to interchange between monitor and projector modes.
All in all, it's an impressive product. I hope the RTM is released ASAP.
Oh, did I mention the windows and users folders are several GBs smaller than its Vista counterpart? Since I only have a 64GB drive, I'm always conscious of that.
Tablet + Windows 7 Ultimate = WIN
