Your next to last resort is:
Repair Install

your last resort is:
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

My 'next to last resort'

here it says: 3. Place your Windows 7 installation DVD into the DVD drive, while still in Windows 7 (Step 1), and click on the Run setup.exe option in the AutoPlay window from within the currently installed Windows 7.

I'm not sure if this will fix it but at this point it's worth a try,

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Remember to right click and run as admin, see if it finds and fixes any corrupt files from your uninstall of Daemon Tools.

You're welcome, It would also help if you could give us as much info about your desktop as you can.

What brand, model number, the more info we have the better.
