HP 970cse printer driver not found

    Hello,

I'm using Windows7 for some time now, but I just realised I haven't installed my printer (HP 970cse) yet. And lo and behold I have no driver for it!

That's my only device so far that don't seem to install on Win7. Changing the printer might work... but again, I don't want to change something that is working perfectly

Anyone knows what I can do for that? Can I use drivers from a Vista installation?

Welcome to the sevenforums! If you have the original disk seeing Vista drivers thiose should go on without problem even on the 64bit 7. You can follow the same instructions for Vista on 7 as well since both already include the drivers for that model. Installing the Printer Driver Located in the Windows Vista Operating System

The 7 RCs have a larger driver base where you can select that from the list when going into the Control Panel>Devices/Printers section and selecting HP from the list of brands when clicking on the add printer option. Once HP is selected the right column in the screen there will see the list of models to choose from.

Once you that one selected and click next you then turn the printer on and simply press the test page to see if the printer is working. If a usb model like that one is there and nothing happens turn the power off, unplug the usb cord from either end for a few seconds and then replug that back in. You should then hear the sound assigned for device connection.

Most Vista drivers will work right away on 7 especially the 64bit Vista on the 64bit 7. The compatibility in that direction is a lot closer plus 7 demonstrates a large improvement in many for backward compatibility.

I was a little concerned about that as well when the 7 betas were first introduced with an old ink jet I had lingering on. When grabbing a deal on a new HP Lazerjet model problems if any were solved right away!

Had a similar problem with an HP 960 printer -- couldn't locate the drivers. Then, noticed that there was a link on the driver install page. Don't remember the exact wording, but it was something about getting additional drivers online.

I clicked that, waited a while, and a panel popped up with a very long list of printers on the left, and on the right, were entries for the 960 printer (among others).

Once you manually browse to the main inf file on the software/driver disk the Windows update process will often search online for the latest if there any newer seen.
