Off topic, but--why the 950 is cheaper than the 940???

I figure I can get a good answer here.

I received a bonus at work, and want to build a new puter based on the i7 chipset. I just wonder why the 950 is cheaper than the 940??? All specs are the same except the chip speed. I mean a big difference in price. Oh I will be using Win 7 for sure.

    Thanks for any input.

The 940 is old and when the retailer purchased it, they probably paid a higher price for it at the time.

For some reason, chip prices don't always enjoy a logical price cut.

With the 950 for $300 vs 940 for $560, I guess I should snarf one up.

Supply and demand. There is more supply of the newer chip and thus the price is lower. The older chip has already seen it's hayday and thus lower supply means higher prices. It does seem funny the way this works.

MadDad- At nearly 1/2 the price of the Core i7 940 the Core i7 950 looks like a great deal and a great performer. I referenced the Passmark benchmarks when I bought my computer which has a Core i7 930 processor and when I ran the Passmark Performance Tests on it I found that the CPU score was actually 310 points higher (6138) than Passmark had rated it so no telling what the Core i7 950 will do for you!
