I'm a little confused about resolutions, some people say increasing resolutions reduce stress on CPU and some otherwise.

Increasing a resolution doesn't help at all, it just stresses the GPU.
Things that are CPU-Based in a game are generally Anti-Aliasing, shadows and smoke.
But Intel processors have a pretty good ALU so it shouldn't be a problem.
If it helps my CPU is only 2.5GHz and that can max every game that my GPU can.

Are there any benchmarks for Intel Core 2 Duo and a GTX 460? The only one I manage to find is the anandtech cpu benchmark, my E6750 with a GTX 280 is bottlenecked really bad about 20-30 fps compared to a I7 950.

At a max resolution of 1440x900...you don't have a massive load that you are going to put on the video card. You probably don't need 1GB of RAM on your video card in all honesty...a 768MB unit should be just fine based on the resolutions and such that you are going to play

From what I am seeing, an EVGA GTX 460 with 768MB of RAM is about $179 on NewEgg...so not a ton of money.

I still don't really see your CPU as being an issue.

Did you see the benchmarks at anandtech? What if those benchies are taken at 1440x900 resolution?
