    External Hard Drive-which one?

l have had some issues with Windows 7 re doing Backups so l think l just have to invest in an external HDD.
Yes l am aware there are loads of brands out there but in my Country Western Digital does not have any Office if l need any assistance or do l assume that if the external Hard Drive crashes l turf it out?
Am tossing between WD,Seagate,Hitachi-all 1Tb no larger as that will last me for ever if it survives.
Have looked at 500Gb but they are more expensive than the 1Tb now and not that easy to buy as WD has discontinued them here.
By the way l am after a Desktop external Hdd so it has to be 3.5",not interested in a portable one as it will never hopefully leave the Computer Room.
    Any bright suggestions?
Yes l know it is a question of personal choice but am asking the Experts what they recommend as am sick of reading up on all these ext Hdds.
    Thanks in anticipation!

If you are talking backups...you might want to reconsider the statement that the drive will never leave the computer room. What happens if your house burns down or somebody breaks in and cleans out your computer room? Your original and your backup are both gone. Not good.

I've had numerous Western Digital externals over the year with next to no problems at all.

    External Hard-Drive Suggestions?

Maybe you'll find my old thread helpful. After everything was said and done I ended up with a Rosewill external enclosure, with a WD 1TB Black, took it from home to school and vice versa last year.

I recently had to RMA it for a new one, it was sitting without use for most the summer and when I tried to use it, it would not power the hard-drive. But besides that my new one and older RMA one worked very well.

Thank you to the people who answered my query l appreciate the assistance.By the way l do have a sense of humour but when l stated the 'external Hdd 'would be staying in the Computer room all l was trying to state was l did not want a Portable one.How explicit do l have to be?
l cannot understand how one member who has it seems a top rating, could be so ridiculous in his answer-of course l am insured so if the house burns down all will be replaced.l was asking about a desktop ext Hdd not an unhelpful answer.
Obviously being new to the Site it appears all these type of Sites are the same the World over, someone has to have their say even if it has absolutely no relevance to the thread and that is a shame as some of us are seeking some opinions and help.
