Mysterious "Problem with PnP devices"

In the last couple of weeks I upgraded from an old XP machine to a new computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. It's a Gateway FX6840-03. It is mostly running great, but their are two minor issues that don't seem to be causing a problem.

1. The computer says that it has a "Problem with PnP devices," but everything seems to be running fine. The following is a paste of the message:

When I click the next button, I'm told that troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem. A search on these forums didn't yield information that helped me. How do I fix this?

2. I have a problem with Updates. Automatic updating is turned on, but there are three updates listed (one important, two optional) that I can't seem to do anything about. The important one is:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB982670)

I've clicked on it, it is highlighted in blue, but the bottom right of my screen tells me that I have no update selected. I've tried double clicking, left, right clicking, but I don't seem to be able to select this update (or the other two for that matter). Are there any suggestions?

I apologize for the length of this post. I tried to give the details as succinctly as I could. Thank you.
Keith
