Windows 7 losing my DVD drive contents

I am using 7127 windows 7 X64. On a portable computer, the darn DVD disc contents is there one second, then it will no longer load a DVD. The device is still in device manager. Sometimes it will read the DVD after a reboot, other times it will not. I am trying to load software at the moment with multiple DVD's.
I will get the first one to start, then when it asks for the second, I put it in, and the DVD drive will not read it. Any ideas?

How much memory do you have?
If your not using multi DVDs do you still have the same problem?
more spec's would help.
using Windows 7 is sort of like "Honestly my 4 door Ford Midsized Sedan gets over 50 mpg".
