    HDD Westren Digital 250GB
    Corsair HX1000W PSU
    Thermaltake SPEDO ADVANCE CASE

    Or go for new rig:

    HD 5870 Vapor-X OC 1GB Video Card
    3x2GB Corsair Dominator-GT Triple Channel CL7
    CPU Intel i7 950 3.06Mhz

    Caviar Black 500GB 7200RPM, 32MB
    Corsair HX850W PSU
    P183 Mid Tower Black

Price difference between those 2 is 500Euro.

Couple of questions come to mind before buying either.

    1. What do you do on the computer? Gamer or graphics or just normal stuff
    2. Can you afford to get the more expensive one without a financial set back?
    3. I assume the OS is 7 on both of them correct?

We all want to have the biggest, fastest and have bragging rights on the block but after all said and done will it be worth it?

All I can say if I buy something I only buy the best. I never but the old generation.

But if you look on the old rig although is 8 months old is very powerful and in a very good price.

I use it for gaming also graphics for my girlfriend.

You said it was..............."the old rig although is 8 months old is very powerful"

You need more people to jump in and respond so take your time and make a wise decision.

Well... Both systems use SSD drives, probably for the Main OS drive, although his has a bit more room for applications compared to the new rig with half the amount. The Data, on the other hand, the newer rig has twice the data space so if you are doing gaming and downloading, the newer one would be more helpful. Whether or not you really NEED an OCed i7 Core system to be the best is relative to what you plan on doing with the system, although unless you know you way around an OCed system yourself, you are going to inherit headaches later on, especially on warm days inside. I only mention this as OCed systems have to be decently maintained to make it worthwhile.

The newer system has a better core chip without the over clocking, has 6 gigs of rams over the 4. I'm a bit more cautious in my gaming, and while I know it would help your friend to buy his old rig, I would lean away from it for the time being unless you are tech savvy enough to maintain and work with an OCed system. If you are planning on doing Photoshop, I would lean more towards the newer rig because of the memory (Adobe loves to suck dry memory) and the eventual disk space you will need in the long run.

    Nice system.

I will say the Gigabyte board is a nice choice, I have one. One thing though, try to get the revision 2 board. It has some updated features over the revison 1 board which I have. Nothing to scream about, but it's alway nice to have the latest board.

    Rev 2 - GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 2.0) - GIGABYTE
    Rev 1 - GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE

The i7-950 looks to be a good choice and not bad for the price I suppose. Especially looking at the price difference between the 930 & 950.

I also like your RAM choice. I only use Corsair RAM and have only had one issue, but customer service was quick and spot on with their replacements.

As to your case choice, I love Antec, but decided to go with Coolermaster's HAF X this time around. Cases are a more a personal choice than a functional one. My opinion.

I've been using Western Digital hard drive since 1998 and find them to be extremely reliable. Right now I have 3 Caviar Blacks in my system. If I may suggest, you may want to go with a 1TB as opposed to a 500GB. Especially since your going with a 60GB SSD drive. You can alway partition the drive to smaller drives.

Overall looking at your choices, I'd say you have a good selection.

    My two cents.
