Windows 7 - USB WLAN "unknown device"

USB WLAN "unknown device"

So I just got a new dell laptop with windows 7 home premium 64 bit installed on it. Thing is that when I go to use my old USB WLAN device (ZyDAS chipset, unfortunately I don't know the model or anything as that information has worn off of the device) which worked just fine on my old laptop which ran windows XP, it comes up with the error "unknown usb device"

I've been scouring forums and such looking for fixes and haven't come across any yet, I think I have the latest drivers installed...the latest I could find online at least...and when I run the program it opens for a second on the taskbar then closes and I can't access it after that.

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

do this>>
go to control panel> click admin tools> click computer management> on left hand pane click device manager> look on the top tabs for "view" left click and right click "show hidden devices" look in the tree for a red cross> if you see unknown device left click the triangle to bring down the details > right click > left click update drivers > i will do a screen shot if you want windows should search the internet for the driver
