First to the mods’, if this is not where this thread should go, many apologies, I truly didn’t know where to post it, if I should have at all on these forums as it’s a bit long.
I moved from XP Home to Win 7 RC and nothing to painful to write of and I have had the most amazin support off this forum and very grateful I am too for it.
This thread is about my printer but first a quick tale.
I’ve been using XP from when it first appeared, at the time I had an old but trust worthy Cannon ink jet, with 4 separate cartridges, it wasn’t very fast but it was cheap to run, then an HP, a Brother, all in one Lexmark ( the printer this thread is about ) and most recently an all in one Epsom BX 300F.
I have found my Lexmark X 5470 to be the fastest printer I have encountered, mine can print out, with margins maxed, a full sheet of A4 in around 6 seconds.
What! I here you all say, that piece of rubbish, well maybe but I can’t fault it’s print speed or for that matter, it’s photo or scanning abilities.
Of course there is better, there must be and that's what I’d like to know.
Last year I had to reinstall XP and the Lexmark software would not install properly, Lexmark spent the best part of 10 hours, even remoting my PC many times to try and solve the software issue, the bull that came from Lexmark’s customer service.
In normal circumstances I would be impressed by that level of time any company spent on it’s product, if it had to, but to be honest I would have preferred 2 hours of remote and sorry we gave it out best shot, can’t help you, the stress Lexmark caused me and I caused myself, I should have ended any further offers of help but they recognised they had a serious software glitch and they were happy to sort it out in my time but never did.
In a way the problem did me a favour, the outrageous, frigan prices that Lexmark charges for it’s cartridges, refills or compatibles never worked in the machine. I managed to knock a few quid off replacements by going to my local ASDA store, their’s all ways worked but with out the software installing, the printer had to be mothballed.
I purchased an Epsom BX300F, nice to have the separate, reasonaby priced cartridges again but A4 print speed, good grief! snail pace and it’s draft mode was barely readable.
The Epsom broke down, the socket at the back started to fizzz, it was discovered the plastic surround had melted, so I got a full refund.
So I thought I just wonder, just wonder if my Lexmark, its software will work within Windows 7 and install properly.
Well stone me if it didn’t, not XP mode now, I don't have it enabled, straight Win 7.
I am delighted, I am!, it maybe a brick in many eyes but it is a low profile brick and still looks smart I recon.
But I ain’t so attached that I’m prepared to put up with Lexmark cartridges prices.
So I was wondering is there a real fast all in one printer out there with 4 or more cartridges and decent software simalar to Lexmark’s Image Studio
It’s not so much brand but a decent, quick, all in one model that can be recommended and works with Win 7?
