USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Converter cable problem

I have an old Hard Drive that I backed up a lot of my music on but when I plug the converter cable from the Hard Drive into my laptop (I only want to transfer my files from the Hard Drive to my laptop) I hear the noise windows makes when it recognises something but the Hard Drive doesnt show up in My Computer (its a seagate 320 gig HD). Does anyone know how to fix this?.

Try assigning a drive letter to the seagate so windows 7 can recognize it. IMHO

How do I do that exactly. I know I must go to Disk Management. I get there and I see the HD (It shows up as disk 1-unknown-not initialized). When I try to initialize it (not sure if I have to do that) a box comes up saying Disk not ready.

Have you updated the seagate driver?

Checked on there. Seems as though the HD I have dont have no additional drivers. Hmmm. This is weird.

Faulty interface? One of my older external HDDs would occasionally stop working or would only work intermittently. This problem was resolved by replacing the enclosure.
