there are a few more options for freeing up space.. go to windows/software distribution/download and delete everything in that file.. go to windows/temp and do the same.. some other folders that can be cleaned out safely are users/[your username]/local/temp, users/../appdata/(any folder name of anything that has been uninstalled)
you can turn hibernation off to free up a GB or so... but what would solve you problem.. assuming
c, d, and e are all partitions on the same HDD is to delete the E partition, in disk management, then download gparted and burn it to a CD or use uNetbootin to install it on a flash drive... boot to gparted and use that to shrink D, move it to the right, and expand C..
That will be too much for him.

    You want this, Home version,

Partition Wizard Home Edition - Reviews and free Partition Wizard Home Edition downloads at Download.com

Have a look at this too, it will show you how to put your data on a seperate

partition which will clear out some space on the one that is filling up.
