I agree that random reboots usually relate to a power supply issue, total output has nothing to do with it.
The Op asked for advice then doubts the good advice he recieves is true? Random reboots and power supply issues usually go hand in hand so the advice is sound.
In this case trying a different power supply is the first thing I would try, although the system working outside of the box but not inside the box might point to another problem, shorted board or loose connections, maybe try a different sata cable.
The reason that i doubted it was because i forgot to mention that we had previously tested the essentials etc with a different power supply. That was one of the first things that came to mind, was that the power supply might have had a bad connection somewhere, or that it was shorting somewhere causing the pc to randomly reboot.
As i said before, i am totally unsure if there is a hardware or software issue. But i am sure the error message i posted about 3 posts back will be useful?
Here are more details to the problem:
When my pc goes into sleep mode (when you have to move either the mouse or tap a key on the keyboard to get it running again), it reboots almost every single time i try "wake it up" so to speak.
Also, when i open applications, or just do random things, it reboots. Then goes into bios as if it were starting up... Then reboots a few times before getting to the windows logon screen.
Another bit of info is that i am using both SATA and IDE drives in my pc.
Yet more info:
Just before it reboots, i hear one of the drives making a sound as if it is starting or booting up then.. crash.
Sorry for typing half an essay... but the more info i give here, the better.
