I have a DVD-Rom drive installed, only ever use it to play games that require the disk be in the drive to play. I install windows 7 from a thumbdrive, all my drivers are on another one, programs on another one etc. I can set my whole system up from a blank hard drive without ever touching optical media. My documents, music, etc is backed up to an external USB hard drive. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me :) It's a model No. 3.1415926 OS Windows 7 Ultimate AMD64 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Motherboard Asus M4N68T-M V2 µATX Motherboard Memory 8GB 4GBx2 Kingston PC10600 DDR3 1333 Memory Graphics Card BFG NVIDIA Geforce 220GT 1 Gig DDR2 PCIe Sound Card VIA VT1708s High Definition Audio 8-channel Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 2 x 19" I-INC AG191D TFT Flat Panel Screen Resolution 1280x1024 x 2 Keyboard Logitech Internet 600 Mouse Logitech Wireless Trackman Wheel PSU Extreme ATX 450 Watt Model No. RSY-645 Case Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case Cooling Stock heatsink and fan Hard Drives 500 Gig WesternDigital SATA-300 Drive Internet Speed 20 Mbps Down 1 Mbps Up Other Info HP DVD1040e Lightscribe - External USB2 |

I still use floppies (5.25 and 3.5) because I have a collection of vintage computers and a few of them are floppy only, no HDD, no CDROM and no USB support. I also have a USB floppy drive that I use on my "modern" machines which allows me to download software from the web and have a way to copy it to my old machines. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 8100 Desktop, Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop OS Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit), Win 7 Pro (32-bit) CPU 2.8Ghz Core i7 860, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo Motherboard Dell, Dell Memory 8G, 3G Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5770, Mobile Intel 965 Sound Card ATI High Definition Audio (Built-in to mobo) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2409W 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard IBM Model M - used continuously since 1986 Mouse Microsoft Hard Drives 1T OS; 1.5T Data on Desktop, 320G for laptop Internet Speed 1.5M down 1.2M up :-( Other Info Also have an Acer Aspire netbook, a home-built AMD Dual core (Minecraft server) and home-built Pent 4 all running Win 7. Also have various machines running XP, Win Server 2K, Win Server 2003, Linux and DOS. I think I have a problem... |
