    Nvidia 8800GT sudden graphical issues...


    Hey guys recently started having a problem with my GPU (I think it is my GPU) it's a Nvidia 8800GT 512Mb Overclocked.

    Was playing COD 6 then suddenly was having major graphic glitches at a certain level. These problems extended to when I am not playing COD 6. Got all the newest drivers and such.

    What I am talking about is when I turn my computer on. Even at the BIOS my screen starts to get little dots and lines all over it in weird places. I can move the mouse but after a few seconds half the screen cuts to black and rest looks really pixelated...

    Any idea what's going on? The whole thing looks like some sort of sick green pizza...

    Your card may be overheating, use GPU-Z to find out its temperature

    The computer doesn't normally stay on long enough.

    Hang on I'm uploading a 10 second video to show you what the issue looks like... Give me a moment while it uploads, and sorry this is the wrong spot. I saw Hardware so I popped it in here but I just saw then that there's a section for GPU cards as well.

    I have no idea how it's suddenly overheating in under 5 minutes... it was always fine before and it's not changed. I carefully cleaned it and there's no dust on it or anything. My room is pretty clean, I have 2 negative ion generators to keep dust down and fans and open air flow as well as good cooling in my system.

    How am I supposed to know... I can't tell because the computer wont even turn on long enough to show me...

    Forget it, close the thread I'm going to buy a new card for $40.

    It's unfortunate but Video cards just die, be it micro fractures in the solider(from continuous heat and cooling cycles) or bad caps. I would check the capacitors to make sure none are leaking or are rounded at the top.
    Also as you have done make sure it is clean and the fan is working properly, the card is seated properly and if power is required it is hooked.


    About the only other way to find out if your card is going bad would be to try it in another system to see if it will re-create the problem, this would either nail it down to your card or let you know it's not your card and to start looking elsewhere.3although it sounds like a bad card at this point.

    8800GTs are known to overheat causing these glitches

When I tried to install 7 ultimate, it would always hang at "starting windows". I got past that by removing my 8800GT video card and plugging into my motherboards VGA out. I then installed the latest Nvidia drivers (8.17.11.9562), shut down, reinstalled my vid card and then could boot into windows....
Anyone having problems with getting a nvidia win7 64bit driver to work with a Geforce 8800GT video card? The new drivers seem to be really bad, going back 190.38, was told that should do the trick, will report back. TC :cool:
