Hi all Thanks for all the ideas please keep em coming. I was thinking is there any way I would be able to take the drive apart and swap out parts? Would I need the same exact drive?

Absolutely NOT! That is job for a clean room, professional equipment, and professionals.

My seagate usb drive flashes quickly when i first plug it into my laptop. I just shut off my computer and let my drive go to sleep. Upon a fresh boot it is picked up every time. I only have to do this if I unplug the unit because of storms or moving it to another computer. GL :)

I wish mine would be that simple. I have tried rebooting it multiple times and nothing even let it sit for a day.

Does any know where I can get the driver for the hard drive? Cant seem to find it any where or Im just not looking in the right place.

    Thanks again

use this attached clean up utility and choose everything except empty recycle bin.

    then reboot

then re attach drive and let OS find the drivers

I too have a 1TB segate http://www.buy.com/prod/seagate-free...208921062.html that has to use wall power not usb and had an issue.

I used the cleaner from above and still nothing. Still coming up as unknown device and display didnt even come up saying it was searching/installing the drivers.

Is there a way i can install the drivers manually? if so were can I find them?

Not sure if this will help anything but when i right click on the unknown device (my seagate) under details its listed as a hardware lds and for value its listed as USB\VID_13FD&PID_1669&REV_0100
    USB\VID_13FD&PID_1669

Also when I plug my hard drive in it takes longer then normal. But the computer makes the sound it makes when you connect some thing and some time it will disconnect it self and then reconnect .

You can download SeaTools from the Seagate website and attempt to run diagnostics on the drive.
