Missing Hard Drive Space (besides the "standard 7%")

Hi,

I recently bought an Asus 1215n netbook from Amazon with a 250gb hard drive. However, when I check the actual capacity I only see 1 partition with 100gb and another partition with 117gb.

I know you "lose" 7gb per each 100gb, but that means I should at least have 232,5 usable gigabytes (approximately). I checked other posts in the forums and thanks to them I found out that one partition in my computer is using 2gb for system protection.

But still, where are the other 13,5 gigabytes???

Thanks everyone

Sorry to say but that 7% is an average. I have seen as high as 20% and as low as 3%.

It gets worse the bigger the HD as well.

Thanks Zigzag. I've been doing more research and found out that in my case it is 7%, indeed. The problem is that apparently Windows 7 created a hidden fat32 partition that is taking the space I thought I was missing. Both Everest (the diagnostic tool) and Windows computer management advanced options are pointing out this situation.

Now the problem is I can't get back those 15gb, since they're all in one partition with no drive letter (like all hidden partitions, apparently). It seems that Windows 7 may use this for recovery purposes... but I just want my space back! :/ 250 advertised gigabytes that turn into 217 don't leave me with a lot of space.

Any ideas? Thanks again
