Dual displays, one won't show up

I have my main monitor connected to my graphics card, and another to the motherboard, like this:

is it possible to use them as dual displays?

The secondary one says: "no signal input" and then turns off.
I've tried detecting it in the monitor preferences in win7, but no luck.

Would love some help.

More than likely no as most motherboards will disable the onboard video when a video card is detected. It is hit and miss (more miss) getting that sort of thing to work unless you have an AMD based motherboard with onboard video and use an AMD video card, known as SurroundView,

ATI Hybrid Graphics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and allows for using up to 4 monitors at a time, 2 on the onboard and 2 on the video card. Pretty sure Nvidia has something similar,

Scalable Link Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

but no idea if it works like AMD's solution (which happens to work very well).

I agree with Stormy. You could safely bet that the video card graphics are interfering with the onboard graphics. If you want 2 displays, the best thing to do is get a video card with dual outputs so you can have 2 screens running at the same resolution, refresh rate, etc.

I have 2 vga ports on my graphics card but only one adapter, so I'll just have to get one more.

Thanks

Both screens work fine on their own its...
