    Keyboard volume keys not working

I have two pairs of volume shortcut keys on the keyboard. Suddenly both have stopped working. The only way I can adjust the volume is through the system tray. Any help?

These shortcuts are very useful while playing a game.

I wish I could help but the same thing happened to me and no matter what I did I couldn't get them working again. All the other buttons work but not the volume? Right? I ended up buying a new keyboard.

Yes. All others work but not the four (two pairs) of volume keys.

I use a laptop, so an option of a new keyboard is out of question.

Interestingly, Fn+right/left arrows are used to decrease/increase the brightness of the screen and they are working properly.

Damn. I don't know what to tell you. I spent nearly 2 weeks trying to fix it but couldn't. It had to be a Windows update that caused it.

So probably there has to be a Windows update to fix it!
    Or am I wrong?

Well I got it to work. A guy named Abhas Gupta helped me by providing the link.

Finally, my keys are back to normal.

Getting Acer Launch manager to work with Windows 7, laptop Volume buttons- Dan Pereda – Yeah! You found me.

I had a similar problem and the solution was relatively simple.

For some reason a few of my services were set to manual (no idea how they got that way)

The important one in this case being the Human Interface Device Access service was stopped.

This service is responsible for the generic keyboard functionality you are missing (I'm aware you already fixed your probelm via reformat, this is more toward future problem seekers.)

P.S. This can also cause your devicces/printers menu to never load (faulty service start) the bluetooth support service is usually the culprit.
