Help Required... Driving me insane!!!

Most likely this is a driver issue. The "This device can perform faster" message is not a sign of any problem by itself. You can get such message any time you use a USB 1.0 port. Now, why does Windows think that your built-in camera is USB 1.0 - I don't know, I would first check the manual to see what kind of connection is there and then check the ASUS site for an updated driver.

The more important question, does your Skype see the camera at all? Even as USB 1.0?

Second, fill in your system specs!


HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS


In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.



Now the key question:

Does the webcam work?

Did the webcam ever work?

Thanks for the additional info.

Now, you say that it did work correctly right after installing Skype.

That tells us that the drivers, although maybe out-of-date, work.
That tells us that the bios works, although maybe there is a newer version.

That tells me that we need to look somewhere else for the source of your problem.

Do you perhaps have a system restore point from the time that all worked?

Please, even if you are familiar with restore points, read the following:
System Restore - How to use

If that doesn't do it, then the next thing to do is completely uninstall your present antivirus/firewall software and install Microsoft Security Essentials and turn on the Windows Firewall.

AV & firewall software can have very strange effects on what would appear to be unrelated software.
MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials

Most of us use MSE and Windows Firewall.

If you have installed any of those super-duper speed-up cleanup your computer programs, then uninstall them now.

Let us know if problem still exists after all of those things.

Now on a side note: I have an asus ha1002xp but with win 7 ultimate installed. You can improve performance by upgrading to 2 GB of ram and also by using a 4GB usb stick as "ready boost" storage.

Where in Germany are you located? There are many asus users there and many savvy computer users there.
