DVI-D Blank Screen VGA Works though...

So I spend all day yesterday trying to figure out a solution to how I was going to make this work I have a 23" HP S2331 LCD Flat Panel that has 1x VGA port and 1x DVI-D port and my main computer has a ATI Radeon HD 5760 Graphics card that has 1x VGA Port 1x HDMI port and 1x DVI-I port. What I would like to do is utilize the VGA port for my KVM switch so when I hook up another machine I can just hit the kvm and use my screen and when I just want to use my machine normally I can switch the input on the monitor to DVI but when I do this now I get a blank screen... The input light stay blue but I get no picture (sometimes it will turn on for a second or two randomly but the picture is completely out of whack like really weird artifacts but it goes out randomly.
Anyone have any ideas? I am waiting for the comp store to open so I can try swapping out the cable but I really don't think it's that...
The other thing is the cable that they had yesterday was like 15' long so i'm wondering if it's maybe to long I know it's in spec but who knows.
I spent all day yesterday cruising the net for solutions but found nothing...
I've updated the drivers and checked the bios for any settings but found nothing. I've tried messing with the control center but nothings working...

If it is not the cable, the DVI port might just not work. I have a monitor that works great on VGA, but DVI doesn't even register a signal.

Is this on your Toshiba Satellite?

If I'm reading this right, you have a monitor with both a VGA and a DVI cable plugged in at the same time? Try disconnecting the VGA cable physically from the monitor and see if the DVI starts working when only the DVI is plugged in. A Guy

Try what A Guy posted. I have a GT220 that has a VGA and a DVI connector. If I have a monitor connected to the VGA port my second monitor on the DVI port won't get a signal until I get to my windows desktop. Even then I have to enable dual monitors for it to work. If I disconnect the VGA monitor it then shows the POST screen, windows boot screen, login etc. To do what you want to do you may have to hit the windows + P keys and enable dual displays. I'd say your video card sees the KVM switch as a monitor and turns off the DVI connector like mine does.
