Keyboard and Touchpad Unfunctional

Yesterday evening to my surprise and utter dismay, both the keyboard and touchpad to my Presario CQ60-615DX completely stop functioning. I have no idea why, but upon restarting I did receive a message that a recent Windows update had been installed. I was unable to use the keyboard whatsoever, but did manage to install an external mouse. I have tried the following solutions:

1. I tried to recover from 1 week ago. The same errors occurred.
2. I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. I was given a repeating error that the Keyboard Filter could not be fixed.
3. I backed up all of my files and did a System Recovery to the manufacturer's defaults. Problem is still occurring.

The keyboard and keys function in the BIOS and Startup Menu, just not in Windows, which leads me to believe this is a software issue, however none of the drives on Compaq or HP are fixing the situation. Oddly enough, when I access

Start > Control Panel > Keyboard

...and I change the Repeat Delay from Medium to Slow, and then close the window, the keyboard begins to function. There is still no response from the touchpad, however.

Any suggestions on what might be happening on how I can go about fixing this? A friend did find a driver that he was able to install in the BIOS that made it so that the keyboard functioned upon startup... 2 times.. Now it is back to the same process just in order to be able to type.

The thing about the bad battery is curious and promising, given your description of the problem. Not a hard thing to test.

Also this from our friend Dinesh:

And try the device troubleshooter.

Sometimes when a program updates it uninstalls the old version. If you then try to restore to an earlier time the program will fail because some files it needs are gone. This would logically apply to drivers too.

You might try uninstalling the new Touchpad driver, installing the old driver, then doing the restore. You would need to be sure you were installing the same driver you had before.

TV, thank you for the links, I tried doing additional searches last night but combing through hundreds of forum entries was difficult to locate the specific information I needed. I will definitely be attempting these methods when I get home, and anyone else who might have any additional input I would definitely still appreciate any and all support! Thanks again for the help!
