Device Manager, Other Devices, "Mass Storage Controller"

Today I fixed a Graphics Card Driver issue (with the help of a thread here on this site)

Now I just have one exclamation mark left in Device Manager on my laptop.

Full details of my set up is in my profile, but in short:

Acer Aspire 8935g
Win 7 Home Premium 64bit

The "Mass Storage Controller" has the exclamation mark and more detil is...:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Of course, there are no other issues, no other exclamation marks at all.

So what is this Mass Storage Controller and which driver do I need to install??

A bit for info:

PCI Bus 2, device 0, function 2

I have no idea what THAT means, except it is probably to do with where the device is physically connected (?) - does that help anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks very much in advance for any sugggestions.

Hi Hanco. I have an Acer Aspire as well and my only suggestion is that you go to the Acer homepage, select Service and Support, there on the left hand side they will have a category for drivers. Select that and then it will go through a series of selections to get to your model. They will have a list of driver downloads there and hopefully the one you need will be there. Good luck.

Also, when you get to the right page be sure to select the proper O/S, kind of in the middle in orange it says Operating System. I had a look over the list of drivers and can't say for sure which one you need but I'm almost certain that it's there. If it were me, I would start with chipset. Just my opinion.

9.1.1.1015

P.S. I went through the Canada site which seems to be more simplified (I can just imagine the jokes)

Sorry but this is the best I could do.
I used the tutorial for finding the missing info but still could not find it. Special Thanks to PooMan UK and DocBrown for their help in filling out these specs.

Hi again Hanco. Of course there is an even simpler solution. If you have a flash drive, just plug it into a USB port and let the computer find the right driver for you. The Mass Storage Controller is for adding things like flash drives or external hard drives.

But, if I were me, I'd take Bill2's advice above.

It should be the chipset drivers you need. Here is the link from the acer support page for your model.

http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...1466&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire 8935G&OS=All&LC=en&BC=acer&SC=PA_7

Heres the page, you can scroll the drivers including the chipset drivers.

Hi Bill and thanks for the links and ideas. Tried the install of chipset drivers. Unfortunately no joy. They installed ok, but I'm still left with the same error showing in Device Manager that I described in the opening post.

BTW I'm not ignoring the help, I travel a lot so it takes a while to try the ideas and respond. Thanks again! :D

Cheers Alfred01. Tried this idea too. Used a USB 2GB stick and an SD card. Both installed drivers and worked well. But, still the same missing driver apparently - according to Device Manager. Very odd.

Might have to work my way through all the drivers on the Acer website eh??! :(

Thanks again for the help :)
