edit registry w/o Win 7?

    I started the process a little before 6 this morning. so, closing in on 7 hrs. I have dual 2.8 G processors, not fast by today's standards but it works pretty promptly for most tasks.

    Please forgive me, I just walked in from my errand. I did, in fact, reply to you from my phone. To the message that clearly said, "do not reply to this message."
    Yes, all the drives were disconnected both internal and external.
    Yes, did that first.

    Good now using diskpart
    select the drive.
    then
    just in case the thing is still dynamic,
    CONVERT BASIC

    Let me know what you see.

    The selected disk is not a dynamic disk. Select a dynamic disk to convert to basic.

    Great. That's what I expected, but had to be sure.

    Now with the disk selected:
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    FORMAT FS=NTFS
    ACTIVE
    ASSIGN
    EXIT
      My Computer
