Windows 7: USB Dropping off

I have been having issues with my USB dropping off sometimes, when i log on my system picks up my flash stick and USB powered mouse and shows them in " my computer" but for some reason they drop off, i hear a ping sound and they disconnect

I have a Panasonic notebook and i am running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit

I had a issue with the power cord, my dog chewed it so i thought was the issue i have replaced the cord and it seemed fine all day yesterday then this morning when i tried to use it without the power cord after 15 minutes they dropped again.

I have uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled also disabled and re enabled USB devises also did a system recovery to a earlier date

Any ideas ?

How many unpowered USB devices do you use?

Just the mouse full time and the flash stick once in awhile

Hello, I have a completely different PC and it's having the exact same problem. The USB drops at odd intervals, and after a couple of seconds comes back, with the appropriate sounds. The lights on the mouse go out, and when it comes back, they're back on and all's well again. Unfortunately, there's no real rhyme or reason that I can discern. It has happened when I open new web pages, new apps. Very weird, I've never had this happen before. It started after I installed windows 7, maybe around the August-September 2011 timeframe. I have one powered USB hub, which I've disconnected and it still happened several times afterwards. I also have a fingerprint reader, and a UPS connected via USB in addition to my old Logitech Razor. My wife has an HP laptop, and it does the same thing at odd intervals. Admittedly, she has an unpowered USB splicer which seems to cause it to happen more often. But other than that, it happens regardless. I've updated drivers as much as possible. I have the one un-installable Microsoft Windows update file (15KB) that utterly refuses to install (others have that problem as well and is probably unrelated) but other than that one, all patches are in. So from what I can tell from various posts on this problem, it seems to be a cross platform issue, with Win 7 being the only common denominator I can find. Any new ideas?

On several occasions over the past year, my 3D Connexion mouse has inexplicably dropped. The LED lights go out, there is the windows sound of a USB device disconecting and the device basically vanishes, as if it has been physically unplugged. It usually lasts for several hours then mysteriously pops back again all on it's own. I have spent MONTHS trying to sort this. Updated drivers, deleted firewall, spent HOURS trying to fix this.

Today both the 3D mouse and my normal mouse dropped out, rendering my PC unusable.

Going into safety mode with network mysteriously did not have the same issues... both devices worked fine. Went online to try to find a solution.

Found several suggestions involving rolling back Windows updates - tried those to no avail.

Eventually found a thread here about Laptop users experiencing the same issue. The fix that worked for them was to switch off the lappy and pop out the lappy battery. Lots of people totally baffeled as to why this should work but statnig that it does indeed work.

Applied the same logic to my PC... Booted down, switched off power and unplugged. Waited 5 mins... and Hey Presto, it worked!!!!

I think you are using a usb 3.0 so you will always have the issue.

Actually no, I only have USB 2.0

Well powering down and unplugging the PC was a temporary fix. The problem has come back again.

I tried another "fix" which was to go into control panel, set up a power plan and switch off the USB power management which switches off power to the USB hubs if power is low.

This did not work either.

I have noticed that the problem seems to occur if I am streaming media such as watching a youtube video. I called up the resources monitor and the CPU was at around 20%, memory was at about 40% so the machine was hardly being stretched.

Any ideas anyone??
