Guide to installing OS on new SSD

I have just purchased an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD and wish to do a clean install of Win7 Pro on it. I have 2 other 320GB HD in the same PC for data/backup. I was wondering if there was a tuturial or guidlines for the optimal way to set this up?

    1. Should the SSD be partitioned so there is a samll amount left unallocated as read somewhere this should be done?
    2. If there is space is it optimal to leave all the user data on the SSD along with the OS/programs or move the data off due to writing issues (don't know if these are stil lan issue with new SSDs)?
    3. If I move the data off to one of HD are there any other files that should also be moved, as read somewhere about some Windows files that should be moved to improve performance?
    4. Any other tips?

    Thanks in advance

If anyone has any suggestion on partitioning and whether user data should or should not be left on the SSD I would be grateful as not mentioned in any posts I can find

    Thanks

it depends how much user data you have (or think you might need).

personally, i've got 103 gigs of music alone - let's not add up the video folder!

so if it were me, i would save all my data on your normal hard drives, and keep all your expensive ssd space free for your os and progs.

    Hi Mickey

This is my wife's pc and actualyl we store most of our big stuff like music/photos on my pc so not sure exactly how much space she wil lneed for OS/progs and remaining data files. My question is even if the SSd is big enouh for the user data should you leave it there as understand SSD are v fast for reading and less fast for writing, which presumably is more often with data files. I may have the option to leave everythng on the SSD, but don't know if that is recommended. I imagine a music file that you just read and rarely write would load much faster if remaining on the SSD. The Outlook.pst is a file you read/write to a lot, but also one of the apps that is often slow so unsure where to put the pst file.

Previously I created a U: partition and actualyl moved the default location of user files so everything was there in including appdata folder etc. I was wondering if the files within the user profile that windows used really need to stay on the SSD to get the full benefit. I don't really understand how all these files interact with each other.
