    Bad sector

I checked for my external HD for bad sectors by HD tune PRO it displayed 47 bad sectors..I was shocked to see this and to verify I checked the disk using default windows tool.I chose scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors and the report showed no problems..Does it really have bad sectors?

Are these the SeaTools tests. Even the long test?
Partition Wizard also has a partition surface test.
If it passes all these I'd be wondering about HD Tune Pro.

You could compare with other software that use SMART parameter:
    - Hard Disk Sentinel downloads
    - Speccy - System Information - Free Download
    - SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Due to manufacturing limitations, all mechanical hard drives will have some defective sectors. In normal everyday use, these are unnoticeable because the drive firmware automatically swaps these sectors out and replaces them with a good spare (also known as mapping). However, some disk maintenance/analyser programs work at a deeper level than programs used on a day-to-day basis, and these can sometimes pick these sectors out.

As regards SMART, not all drives support this feature. Most do, but there are still some that don't. It also needs to be enabled in the BIOS.
