Getting more GBs by removing deleted files that might be still there

I wanted to ask if there is something out there to get, or some way I can do it myself; if my computer still has those old files that I deleted the first time but still might be there. On my old computer, I had this program that found dozens of files that my comp. had memories/files on and once they were gotten rid of, I got more GBs than I thought I had. I forgot the name of that program, but it's obvious there might be more versions that are similar out there, does anyone know where to find and what's the best one?

Nope. If the file is deleted the computer automatically writes over them in the future. There is no benefit or way to do it as you suggest.

On the other hand if you delete TEMP files you will get more disk space back. IN win 7 that is called the HD cleanup wizard which is built in.

Just type cleanup in search

Okay, did it and the only two that might be worth deleteing are close to 400MB each: Thumbnails and System error memory dump files.

If you go to the more options tab you can recover even more space by deleting some of your restore points. If my system has been stable for a long while, I do this from time to time. It will delete all but the last restore point, if you have a lot of restore points it could add up to a lot of space.
