Can the wireless mouse and keyboard use the same USB dongle?

Hey guys. I have a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2.0, and a Microsoft Wireless keyboard 3000 V2.0. The mouse works off of a wireless receiver that looks like a wired mouse kinda, and the keyboard works off of a small, white USB dongle. Can both of them work off of the same receiver?

If when you bought them you got ones on the same channel theoretically yes but they are on different channel to prevent interference.

You can run a keyboard/mouse combo, they usually come with one receiver. AFAIK you cannot merge dongles.

Hi spoonard and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

If the keyboard and mouse come as a boxed set with a single receiver, then yes. If they came separately with individual receivers, then probably not, even if they are from the same manufacturer.

Logitech have what they call Unified receivers. If both the mouse and the keyboard support it you can use the one dongle for both even if purchased separately. If Microsoft has an equivalent setup then it could work. You might have to read though the documentation for the device or poke around the Microsoft support site for that device to figure it out. If the two dongles were identical, or close to it, I would say you chances might be good, but it sounds like they are quite different, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

    Hi there
MS do have a Wireless Mouse / keyboard combination with a "Mini" usb receiver.

I use these on a laptop from time to time as I don't like the Touchpad or the often tiny keyboards of small laptops.

UK PC World I think around 24 GBP.

    cheers

    Hi,

The easiest way to find out is to power up the machine with just 1 USB reciever in, hit the reset button on the reciever then the button on both the mouse & keyboard. If both are picked up, and work then you're in luck. Otherwise you'll need to look at buying a wireless combo as suggested above.
