    Good inexpensive Laser Printer??

I am looking for a good inexpensive laser printer. Just black and white. I am considering the Brothers HL-2140. Any feedback or other recommendations would be appreciated.

I have an HP model here I packed away in a box with a spare toner cartridge.(black + white bought on a store closeout not finding a color model left)

Typically lazor printers soar pricewise compared to the deskjet ink type in general with the closeout price still over $300 for the one here. Newegg has a monochrome model catching $99.99 however seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828115639

    I got a Lexmark x204n about 6 months ago at Fry's electronics for $149.00

It is black & white, printer, fax, scanner, copier. Does a nice job for the price.

I like HP's, have a large color laser and a small b&w laser.
I bought my small HP P1006 from Newegg a few years ago for $50 shipped and HP had a $45 rebate so I paid $5 for it.

I have a couple of Brother printers: an HL-5150D, and an HL-3070CW. The 5150D is an old monochrome printer, with a built-in duplexer. (That can be convenient.) The 3070CW is color, with wireless networking. (I don't use the wireless capability, but rather connect it to my router with an Ethernet cable.)

I recommend them both. The 5150D doesn't have a fully featured set of drivers available for download, as it's old, but Win7 includes adequate drivers for it, including the duplex function. The 2140 has full Win7 support.

Have the exact same HP P1006 model here bought when Circuit City went bankrupt. The HP Photosmart with copier does nicely for the ink type with a copier while I had hoped for a color lazer model. Newegg is out of stock on that one however.

The one advantage of ink cartridges over lazer is seeing some places offering refills(1/3 retail price) while toners do last.... ! Disposal is a pain however going to where they sell new.

For an all-in-one model another monochrome the price doubles over the first posted for the $199.99 tab. Newegg.com - HP Pro M1212nf CE841A#BGJ MFC / All-In-One Up to 19 ppm Monochrome Laser Printer

Two friends of mine have had a Brother HL-2140 for a few years and like them. I got a HL-2170 which is the same printer with USB, Lan & Wi-Fi built in. If you have an Office Depot around check out the Brother HL-2240 or HL-2270 which are on sale. These have the added feature of auto duplex so you can print on both sides. The HL-2140 and HL-2170 can do manual duplex but not auto.

If you do decide on one of these do not buy the extra toner from Office Deport. Newegg is much cheaper.

PS: Looks like Office Depot may offer free shipping.

Don't forget to take a look at the entire HL series as well if you want a look at the Brother lineup at newegg. Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Printers & Scanners,Printer - Laser Printers,Brother, brother HL Series

The actual lowest price found so far however is seen with a Samsuang model. SAMSUNG ML Series ML-1665 Personal Up to 17 ppm Monochrome Laser Printer

But before hopping on anything first decide your maz price range as well as what other features if any you want to see other then a basic printer.

I have a Samsung ML-2510 and it's been a good printer. However, when you buy these...they usually come standard with a fairly low yield toner cartridge that will run out much quicker than a standard size replacement. I've had my Samsung for about 1.5 years and the low toner light just came on. I think it's about $70 for a genuine 3,000 page toner from Sansung...which if I recall correctly is actually more than I spent for the printer at OfficeMax.
